The Garden

The garden beds

The strawberry "patch"

The blueberry bushes.

Well, the garden is finally underway.

So far I've planted: carrots; lettuce; beets; snap peas; snap beans; spinach; strawberries; cauliflower; and broccoli. All were seeds except the last 3. They all seem to be doing fine (I haven't seen any sprouts on the seeds yet but am hopeful they will show up in the next few weeks).

I'll probably put the tomato plants in the ground this evening. What's left? Lots! I still have plants growing in the basement that are not ready to go in the ground yet: zinnias; pepper, both hot and mild; and mint. And lots more seeds that will go in the ground in 2 weeks (this week is the official last frost date week).

I've started a list on my side bar called "What's In The Garden" for those of you that are curious.

Happy Gardening!

  1. WOW! You are going to have more garden vegetables than you will know what to do with when they start producing! That is so fun though! I just love fresh produce! Your place is looking very nice!

Oh, and my sister gave me this big huge shopping bag for costco (because I buy in bulk so much..um not so much). But its my first "environmental friendly bag" and I'm excited! I thought of you!

  2. Did Jason build the boxes? It is looking so good. I am very impressed with everything you guys have done. I wish I had the drive to get a garden going. There are too many things that keep me from starting. I am just lame!!!

  3. Yes, Jason built the boxes, he did a great job! We chose this method because there is less weeding and we have no idea what kind of soil we have in our yard.

It's been a nice release to go out and 'tend' to it every evening. I can hardly wait to see it green instead of brown though.

Don't you worry, when (if) we move back to TX I'll help get your garden going.

  4. I have read that the boxes are the best way to garden...so much easier. I don't know what it is about gardening that is so exciting?! Just planting thoes little seeds and watching them grow and produce. It's a great thing. You guys have accomplished so much in your new house. Looks good! You have inspired us Amber. We have our environmental bags, planted a bigger garden, changed our light bulbs and recycle every week instead of every few monthes.
