Thoughts

For a week now I've been trying to deal with the news of having twins. Lots of thoughts have been running through my head, such as:

"How are we going to go to the zoo!"

"How are we going to get around on a daily/normal basis!"

"We have to buy a van!"

"Will I get any sleep?"

"I sure hope they are easy and patient!"

"We have to get another car seat!"

"We have to get another stroller!"

"WHAT AM I GOING TO DO!!!???"

Now, let me assure you that we ARE excited. I am a little more of a worry wart and planner though and I truly was getting used to the idea of 3 kids under 3 but now knowing that we will have 4 kids under 3 I'm much more overwhelmed than excited.

Jason has been so good, he keeps telling me to not worry about it and just take it one day at a time. I get that, but there's so many ?????s that I can't seem to STOP worrying.

As it is, I'm already the size I normally am at around 4 months (or even 5 months). I have leg cramps all day every day. I'm constantly starving and I am so tired but can't sleep. I have the craziest dreams, mostly about food that I can't quite get to. WHAT? You think I'm obsessed with food, let me assure you - I AM!!!!!

Speaking of food, I haven't given a garden update lately. I'm sad to say that I've not taken as much care of the garden as I had planned on and as it needs. My squash, cucumbers and melons are all dead. They succumbed almost from the start to cucumber beetles that I never got around to managing. The lettuce, tomatoes green beans and carrots have been a great success as was the spinach. The zinnias have done great and the pepper plants seem to be doing fine. Also the basil and coriander are doing well. What would I change for next year? Plant more: spinach and carrots. I'm not sure what I'll do about squash. Also I'd build trellises earlier (while my snap peas did well for quite some time I didn't get them on trellises until late and wound up damaging the plants). Oh, and I'd plant more variety of lettuces, it's been a little boring!

Please note this is a post that was written with a significant about of humor underlying all the pregnancy things. We really are excited - but it is a daunting undertaking.

  1. I can't begin to imagine how you must be feeling. 4 under the age of 3 is very overwhelming. I'd be sending myself to the looney bin!! But, you are a fantastic mom and you have a supportive, very involved husband and you guys are going to be awesome!!! You will be in our prayers. And.....I can't wait to hear the sex of the babies :)

  2. I cannot wait to see more ultrasound pics of those babies!! If I were you, I would just worry about eating enough for now. What have you been craving, if any??

  3. I'm sure that exhaustion and fatigue have set in. I'm not surprised about the garden... mine went out the window with pregnancy and newborn. I wouldn't count on much for next year, although it's okay to plan and dream about it. Just understand that having 4 preschoolers at home will severely limit your ability to work in the garden (or even in the house). Think about those questions, yes, but don't get stressed out about them. You've got help from friends and family (even though I'm on the opposite side of the country), and they will all work themselves out over the course of the pregnancy. I love you Amber.

  4. remember this... you can worry yourself to death or Just enjoy life as it comes at you... Don't worry so much, it will all fall into place as your pregnancy goes along. And I think Abygail will be a good lil' helper! You have several months to work things out. Find a mothers of multiples group in your area, and lean on them for support. I guarentee that things will come easier as you talk to mothers who have multiples. I wish that group was bigger when I was going through it! You will survive, and better than that, you will do a great job, as always!
    Miss you!

  6. TWINS!!!!! Holy freaking cow!! That is going to be an adventure isn't it? I would tell you you're going to love it. I would tell you you're going to have sooo much fun. I would tell you that twins are sooooo super cute. But in reality...how the heck do I know? The only thing I can tell you is that I hope one of them has some sort of birthmark the other one doesn't have so that if you get them mixed up, you have sure fire way of telling them apart. :)

  7. ok so I will have 4 under 4 come october and here is a little thing I have learned. I go to the gym where my kids play in the playroom and love it, plus I get a hour or 2 of much needed sanity time, and really that is about it. I go to the store with the kids only if Chris (hubby) is coming or if it is an absolute must. Don't stress about everything only the things you know you can control. Don't mean to sound preachy but you'll do great there are somethings you'll have to learn to let go. . . like a spotless house, etc

  9. Amber - I can't even imagine how overwhelmed you must feel. It will be a lot of work...but if you are a planner and an organizer you will manage fine. Give up on ideas of having a perfectly clean house and do what you can to simplify meals etc. I have a friend who has a 15 yr old, a 9 year old, two 3 year olds, and twin 18 month olds. Her husband is a truck driver. I don't know how she does it but she does...and you will too. Rely on friends to help you out. I'm always grabbing one of her kids in sacrament and if I'm not there someone else is. YOU WILL SURVIVE. Learn to laugh and pick out really cute PJ's....you'll be wearing them a lot!

  12. Food. I remember feeling sick of putting food in my mouth when I was with twins. But I couldn't stop! Keep feeding those babies. Keep a snack by the bed, gummies or crackers or something, for that midnight craving that won't let you sleep. Another suggestion, look through the cookbooks for a different way to make your fav dishes, or the babie's favs. They will tell you what they want/need to eat. I used to crave nachos with jalapenos... yummy! You'll be ok. Love ya!!!
